Here is a list of very famous piano works I listened to on a CD while working. I charted whether they were true to key, shifted during the performance or were ‘wrong’ from the start. They are all works that I have played on the piano many times.
Schubert Impromptu in A flat – no change
Chopin Etude in E – E shifting to F major
Beethoven Fur Elise – no shift from A minor
Brahms Waltz in A flat – no change
Tchaikovsky June from the Seasons – stayed in G minor
Mendelssohn Spring Song – A major throughout as written
Debussy Claire de lune – D flat shifting up to D major by the end
Beethoven Andante Favori – F major as intended
Satie Gymnopedie – A minor, no change
Chopin Nocturne in E flat – indeed
Liszt – Liebestruame (the famous one) – A flat beginning to end as penned
Schubert Impromptu in G flat – this stayed in key for a while, then shifted up to G major but it was a rather mellow G major (a key that I usually hear as clear and bright)
Mozart – Rondo alla Turca – A minor surely!
Schumann Traumerei – unshifting quiet F major as Schumann wrote it
Albeniz Tango in D – in D indeed.
So pretty much in key for these peices that I know very well. E major, D flat and G flat majors were unsteady, as reflected in previous posts. I was very pleased that A flat major behaved itself in this set.
