Instrumental arrangements of hymns and songs

Since the 1970s when I was a medical student and joined the St John’s Parish orchestra in Cape Town I have been arranging hymns and songs for amateur and often very young musicians who wanted to contribute to making music in church. The orchestra took young and old, near beginners to consummate professionals. Sometimes we had nearly a full orchestra; at other times even Ravel would have been challenged to make the combination work! So I had to mix and match, and became adept at writing counter-melodies so that each instrumentalist felt they were doing something interesting, and there was something going on beyond 4-part harmony or the tune. Over 40 years quite a repertoire has built up. Some songs will have largely passed from contemporary use; others are staples destined to be with us for a further few centuries.
I put them here for open use by anyone. If you would like to make a small thank you token, please send it to http://www.warehouse.org.za/ . The Warehouse exists to serve the South African church network in its response to poverty, injustice and division.
The resources are arranged both alphabetically by first line with key indicated and by instrument, so you should be able to find what you are looking for quite easily. Some are scanned version of the hand-written parts going back to the 1970s (historical documents!). Others are printable versions of scores arranged using Finale. All are transposed for the instrument. All files are pdfs. The version of the hymn or song used as the harmonic basis for the arrangement will be indicated. For copyright reasons I cannot upload a copy of the original piano version in most cases.
[The preponderance of parts for French horn, Bassoon, Trumpet/Cornet, and Flute reflects my access to my children’s skills on these instruments from junior school through to adulthood.]
